Quilt Ministry
Mission Statement:
Quilts from the Bluffs is a ministry of First Christian Church of Council Bluffs, Iowa, designed to show love and support to sick, traumatized, or otherwise hurting individuals in the area with a gift of a new, handmade quilt created by volunteers. We also teach and encourage the art of quilting to interested individuals in the community free of charge.
A quilt ministry allows those with a love of quilting to come together to share their craft with those in need. A quilt offers comfort and a tangible way to show others that someone cares about them. In the process of creating the quilts, friendships form within the group and we begin to minister and support each other. This is a group that does not have an age bracket and is a great way to mentor to younger generations by teaching a skill and showing one way to give to others.
Who are the recipients?
The quilts we make go to various organizations and individuals in the community such as Project Linus, Gabrielle’s Corner, Mohm’s Place, Wings of Hope, Mercy Hospital and FCC shut-ins.
Who can join?
The group is open to anyone at any skill level from those who have never quilted before to an expert quilter. All ages are welcome, but we ask that anyone under age 13 is accompanied by an adult. You do not need to be a member of FCC, so please invite your friends outside the church to participate.
When do we meet?
We meet on the first Saturday of each month at the church (Room 023 on the lower level). The room will be open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and you can come anytime within that period as it fits your schedule.
What do I bring?
Bring the following items with you on quilt day if you have them:
Quilt kits including patterns and fabric will be provided. Donations of new cotton or flannel fabric or quilt batting are accepted.
